I have known Wayne quite a few years now,we met when the slippery old git sold me a mankey piano for the pub i owned, full of woodworm and so out of key (now you can tell when you hear Wayne play he must have learnt on that old joanna) anyway we became instant muckers and we still get on really well, the only  thing is he keeps on nicking my bleeding fags, no really Waynes a good en!
you will have to go a long way to find a mate like him
he helped me out when i was down on my luck and that means the world to me, After a few years of mucking about we got together to form the barrow boys and now things are looking rosie.

This old Photo was taken at Hampton Court Palace in 1963

Doing the Lambeth Walk Pearly style
As you can see we were having Knee's up in the Cockney tradition at Hampton Court, back in 1963 we were invited for a charity event held in the grounds of the Palace.
Uncle fred & Aunt Mary Tinsley Pearly King & Queen of Southwark, Famous Pearlies in there time, Mum & Dad and me Pearlykingjim aged 8 years old a Pearly Prince in them days
although over some 44 years ago i still have very fond memories of that night, and getting lost in the maze in the garden at the Palace. I wonder what old Henry would have thought about us at he's home in all our splendour.
chopped there blinking heads off or words to that affect might have been the order of the day,

Beaufoy school pagent day at the lord Mayors show
I Attended  Beaufoy school in Lollard Street just of the Famous Lambeth walk,in 1967 our school was entered and the theme was
funnily enough THE LAMBETH WALK  the lorry was  made to look like the walk, we had pupils all dressed up in old time costumes ,and members of the school band played all the old Cockney songs on the float, what a great day and the crowds loved us the cheers we got when we went passed, bent the old ear-drums, and the best thing is that Beaufoy won the ist prize for best Float. The old London Evening News read on the front cover PEARLY JIMMY LEADS THE FUN, i have still got a copy to this day What a great day for the Pearlies and what a great day for Beaufoy school.

Charity Night at the Hen & Chicken Alvey st SE17

The pub as long gone but the memories remain

Growing up in South London

jimmy was born in the famous east street market in south London in 1955 from the age of 8 years old he would help the family out by working on the market stalls and pulling the barrows in and out.

He was fascinated by the lifestyle and received quite an education amid the banter and the colourful language of the costermongers.

He often spent the evening on the doorstep

of the Hen & Chicken public house in alvey street just of east street (long gone now),

with a bottle R.Whites lemonade and a bag of crisps plain ones with the little blue bag of salt, he sat there listening to what was going on inside the boozer which attributes to he's life long love of cockney music and admits as the nights wore on and the booze flowed freely,it often began to sound that the joanna player was wearing boxing gloves!

Pearly kings and queens

Jimmy still has fond memories of the charity nights in the Hen & chicken he's parents were the original & genuine pearly king and queen of Camberwell and on special nights original members of the pearly guild would come from all over London

and have a right old royal knee's up

all for charity.

PRINCE TO A KING

when Jimmy's dad passed away in 1976,it seemed as if the pearly tradition within the family would die with him, they had phone calls from people who wanted to buy he's fathers pearly suit and take on the title of pearly king of Camberwell.

However jimmy and he's family thought it would be against the pearly spirit and pearly loyalty to entrust the importence of the pearly guild to strangers.
